CARMELITE COLLEGE REUNION
A reunion for past pupils who attended the Carmelite College in Moate between 1950 and 1962 is taking place this Friday in the Grand Hotel from 7pm.

CONFERENCE ON CIVIL WAR
On Saturday the Old Athlone Society hosts a major public conference on the history, meaning and legacies of the Irish Civil War in Custume Barracks from 9.30am to 5.30pm. There will be a variety of speakers on the day, including keynote speaker John Regan, who will directly address the controveries that continue to mould our perceptions of the conflict.

'THE CHASTITUTE’
Athlone Little Theatre presents a production of John B Keane’s 'The Chastitute’ directed by Joe MacCarrick. The run begins this Saturday and continues until the following Saturday, November 30. Curtain up at 8.30pm. Bookings: 090 64 74324.

MOATE LADIES GOLF
The last fundraising event of the year - The Race Night - takes place in the Grand Hotel on Saturday, November 23, at 9pm. You still have a chance to buy a jockey, owner or trainer for €20 by contacting a member of any of the club committees. There will also be a tote on the night. CHRISTMAS CRAFT WORKSHOPS
Local artist Non Waters is hosting crafty Christmas children’s workshops at Fernhill Garden Centre over the next few weekends. On Saturday, November 30 there is creative card making for 12 years and up, on Saturday, December 7 it’s creative card making for ages five to twelve. On Saturday, December 14, it’s fun festive decorations for twelve years and up, then on December 21 it’s festive decorations for ages five to twelve. The workshops run from 11am to 12.30pm each Saturday. The cost is €15 per participant.

St Brigid’s GAA Club will host an international sports quiz, in association with Mayo Roscommon Hospice and Pieta House in The Hodson Bay Hotel on Friday, November 29 next. The quiz will be hosted by RTE and Irish Times Sports journalists, Ken Earley and Ciaran Murphy. Cash prizes include €3,000 for first prize, €2,000 for second prize and €1,000 for third prize.
