Jay Boland through to live round of The Voice

Athlone's Jay Boland is second favourite to win RTE's The Voice after his win in a battle sing off on Sunday's show.

Jay Boland is the 11/4 second favourite and proved why when he took on Aisling Connolly in his battle and won.

All was not lost for Aisling however as Jamelia used her steal to add her to her team and is on offer at 33/1 to win.

Aoife Heffron, PR Executive at Boylesports, commented “Jay Boland is a real contender to win and he is on offer at 11/4 following his brilliant battle performance.”

The final duo to do battle come from Team Kian - Jay Boland and Aisling Connolly singing Just Give Me a Reason by P!nk. All four coaches wanted Jay on their team but for him it was an easy decision picking Kian. Kian chose a song that Jay finds difficult – Just Give Me A Reason by Pink and Nate Ruess. Aisling and Jay was Kian’s closest one to call…

Both contestants were lavished with praise by the judges.

Matt Cardle said: 'There is something wrong with the world if you are not both in the live shows.' Jamelia said the performance was 'spectacular'.Bressie told Jay that he was the strongest male vocalist in the competition.

Kian said the two singers had produced the performance of the night.

'If I could use my own steal I would be using it on you. I am begging the other coaches to steal the person I am sending home. But I have to go with my heart I am going to take Jay through.'

Kian’s prayers are answered when Jamelia stole Aisling: 'She is fantastic, edgy her performance was flawless, I thought you were the better performer tonight, but I didn’t say anything because I wanted to steal you!!!

Through the next five weeks each coach will pick their perfect ten acts in the Blind auditions and pit them against each other in the Battle stages. They must then make the decision which of the two they will take through to the Live Shows.

The seven lives shows take place from March 16 to April 27.
