Intense colour from Penney's

Ignite your energy and spirit this autumn

Crepe jacket - €25 (in store in October); Tri stripe pencil skirt - €13 and colour block platform - €23 (in store since August).

This autumn season sees a spectrum of new and exciting trends to tantalise our ever more demanding fashion desires. Penney's energy and spirit ignites with a strong desire for newness and change as the collections danced to the rhythm of multiple references with a huge emphasis on colour and retro influences. The paradox of the new season's fashion mixes and matches complex with rock, retro with glam, sexy with wild and eccentric with minimalistic.

The trend for intense colour is set to continue as we embrace colour blocking for the colder months. Think deep autumnal colourways, strong blues, bright reds, burnt golds and kelly and teal greens and the full-on appeal of vibrant Crayola brights worked into simple outfits.

Fabrics are key with the importance of wool mixes ranging from soft to thick knits, lofty mohairs, cosy Fairisles and brushed finishes, and of course brightly coloured checks and traditional tweed married into the collections alongside corduroy and flannel. Black is back in sheer fabrics like chiffon and lace and there is a peppering of rawness to the fabrics.

There are a myriad of vintage influences, as we see the ongoing trend for the 1960s reworked and relived and allow for 70s to construct into glamourous shapes, with intense jewel-bright autumnal colour bursting at the seams and blocking taking over from where prints always reigned.

The big message and the emerging trend of the season is the revival of the 1960s. Influences utilise the popsicle brights palette, while a rawness comes into play with a return to more earthy colours in a romantic theme.

The blouse is perennial for this season, instantly update your wardrobe by adding the blouse to your 'must have' items think volume sleeves and pussy cat bows, shirt and shift shape dresses again are important and denim continues to take the hippie trail with wider legs being the season's essential. Peg leg pants, oversized knits all coming through in muted colour tones are also key.

There is an eclecticism to the styles and silhouettes which can be seen through our three main themes - Urban Dreamer, Pop Culture and Wild Romance. It's a season that embodies merriment through an explosion of colour and a feast of themes, so let your imagination run free to 'dream on' and dream we shall!

Urban Dreamer

The season adopts a uniform of smart, sensible clothes with looks that are pared back with a timeless simplicity that cocoon the body effortlessly. Soft feminine textures sit with utility details that give an urban twist.

Pop Culture

'Pop' references the vibrancy of the colours and the way the prints and textures clash with each other. Preppy shapes are young and eclectic. Checks are brightly coloured and retro geo prints clash in a fun and rebellious way.

Wild Romance

Wild Romance tells the story of a rugged soul that agrees to grace us with her natural beauty through fabrics that are raw in texture but constructed into glamorous shapes including shirt dresses, midi skirts, pleat front trousers and the all important 70 inspired chiffon shirt.

Penney's is located at Golden Island Shopping Centre, Athlone.
