Moate Scór group in county final

Print | Email

The Moate All Whites ballad group are heading to Ballymore on Sunday next where the county finals of Scór na n"g take place in the local community centre hall.

The great tradition, which has built up in the club over the last number of years, is continuing this year with a group which will have a great chance of winning the final if they can reproduce the standard of performance which they delivered in the semi-final which took place in the Downs last Saturday.

Susie Gillivan, Jennifer Hynes, Adrian Rabbitte, Emma Stone and Eimear Fleming have blended into a very tight ballad group. They perform two songs, one in Irish An Speic Seoigeach and one in English, In My Father's House.

The standard of the ballad group competition has risen dramatically in recent years with all elements of the presentation now receiving great attention. The entrance, appearance, departure and the smile are now all part of the package that is required for success at this level.

Moate All Whites are a little unlucky not to have a second participant in the final with Leonie Canavan having performed so well in the recitation on Saturday last. Leonie is blessed with a fine clear voice and excellent diction. Her performance on Saturday would have merited a place in the final on many other occasions but unfortunately for Leonie there was only the proverbial toss of a coin between the semi finalists and she was one of those to lose out.

In the question time the Moate team of Emmet Ryan, Sorcha Galvin and Cian Bradley failed to progress to the final despite scoring a total which would have qualified from the other semi final.

It was good to see Rosemount back in the fold on Saturday last where they participated in the dancing, ballad group and question time. Their teams failed to make it to the final but the experience gained this year will be of great benefit to them in the years ahead as most of their participants will be eligible to participate for another few years.

The south of the county will also be represented in the instrumental music where Ballymore will have a good chance of winning another final with their five piece group.

Proceedings get underway at 3pm on Sunday and if you intend travelling you are advised to arrive early as a full house is guaranteed.
