In a charitable stroke, a group of local golfers has raised over €7,000 in aid of the people of Haiti.

The Night Owl Golf Society based in the Glasson area decided to raise money for the worthwhile cause by holding a very successful race night two weeks ago.

All of the money raised on the night is going to the Gena Heraty Haiti Fund. Gena, from Mayo, is a lay missionary who has been working with orphans in Haiti for ten years with the charity Our Little Brothers and Sisters.

One of the organisers, Charlie Walsh, knows Gena's sister Mary Wrafter and her husband Ben, who came to Athlone last Friday to receive the cheque. Charlie thanked everyone for generously supporting the event.
