Moate Foróige feature on Ireland’s Top Teens

Half of the town was glued to the TV on Sunday evening last as the Moate Foróige Group made their appearance on the TV3 programme Ireland’s Top Teens. A team from Sideline Productions had visited the town to record a piece about the group who were one of ten finalists in this national competition. Moate qualified with neighbours Ballycumber from the Leinster area. Their project was based on drug awareness and suicide prevention and included the results of a confidential survey conducted amongst students at Moate Community School. The project included information on the services available and their catchy tee shirts included the number of many of the support services available in the area and nationally. Group leader Sharon Higgins was the only leader of the groups featured not to be interviewed on camera, a fact that does not surprise me. Sharon was probably too busy when they looked for her. I now know why she asked me and Anna Duffy to talk to the TV3 team. The energy and enthusiasm of the group was captured very well by the production team and we can look forward to the results show on Sunday next where the winners will be announced. The programme is due to air at 6.15pm. Congratulations to all involved.
