Bóthar auction in Curraghboy raises over €5,000

On Friday, October 22 last a fundraising night was organised by Cam Bóthar Committee in McDermott's Lounge, Curraghboy. The main event of the evening was an auction of livestock and other items. Auctioned were a number of lambs donated by; Gerry and Maureen Doyle, Curraghboy, P.J. and Miriam Finnerty, Brideswell, Joe and Una Fallon, Curraghboy, Barry and Bridie Martin, Curraghboy, Brian and Mary Fallon, Curraghboy, Dermot and Ann Marie Kelly,Ballyforan, Brendan and Margaret Butler, Brideswell, Seamus and Teresa McHugh, Curraghboy, Ultan and Bernadette Burke, Brideswell, Gerry and Gertie McHugh, Taughmaconnell, Mattie and Marian O'Brien, Brideswell and a pure bred Texal Lamb donated by Michael and Elizabeth Carroll, Brideswell, a breeding ewe donated by Willie and Kathleen Dolan, Brideswell, a breeding ewe donated by Tommy and Eileen Dolan, Brideswell. The main items auctioned were a Friesian Heifer Calf donated by Ronan and Martina Morris, Brideswell and a Simmental Heifer donated by John Watson, Curraghboy. Also auctioned was Wrought Iron Tables donated by Kevin and Ann Mannion, Curraghboy, One drum of Shell oil and a box of twelve grease cartridges was donated by Tommy Kelly, Curraghboy, a Sheep Dipping Crook was donated by James Murray, Brideswell while One Roll Barbed Wire was donated by P. and S. Dolan Fencing, Brideswell, A Free Range Turkey was donated by Peter and Patricia Coyle, Curraghboy, 50kg potatoes were donated by Tom Colleran, Moore. The auction was expertly conducted by guest auctioneer, David Connaughton, Knockcroghery. A raffle was held in conjunction with the event and some individuals gave private donations. The Raffle prizes were kindly sponsored by: Michael and Yvonne Waldron, Brideswell , Mary McHugh, Taughmaconnell, Tesco, Athlone, Dunnes, Irishtown, Athlone, Mulligans Athlone, Sean Dunning, Athlone, Kevin Dooley, Athlone, Bridie Scally, Curraghboy,Teresa Geraghty, Curraghboy, John Watson, Curraghboy, Cooney's Pharmacy, The Crescent, Athlone, Easons, Athlone, Myra McDermott, Curraghboy,Willie and Carmel Gacquin, Curraghboy, Mike and Frances Dolan, Curraghboy, Raymond Gately, Curraghboy, Ger and Brigid Cummins, Curraghboy, Cunningham's Pharmacy, Athlone,Tony and Nora Ward, Curraghboy and Teresa Scally, Curraghboy., Chairman of Cam Bóthar Committee PJ Finnerty thanked all those who donated the animals and other items for auction also all those who sponsored the raffle prizes and those who gave private donations. He also expressed the thanks of the local Bóthar Committee to the McDermott family for hosting the auction and their generous support of Bóthar in purchasing a heifer, K. K. Kenny for the musical entertainment and in particular all those who attended on the night and who helped to make this annual event such a success. Thursday last Bóthar sent a consignment of animals to Rwanda which included five in calf heifers purchased by Cam Bóthar from the proceed of this and other fundraising activities carried out in the local area. A total of €5,691 was raised at the Curraghboy auction.
