Killinure woman scoops almost €100k on programme

A Glasson native has kicked off 2012 in style taking home a cash bonanza of €98,600 on a TV gameshow at the weekend.

Amy O'Connor, neé Hopkins, originally from St Mark's Killinure, Glasson but now living in Drangan, Thurles, in Tipperary was the biggest winner on Saturday's popular RTE 1 Winning Streak programme, presented by Geri Maye and Marty Whelan, where the five players scooped a total of €346,000.

A member of the Defences Forces based in the Curragh where she works in the communications department, Amy was well supported during her television appearance by family and friends including her parents, Ann and Michael, husband Tom and 19-month old daughter Chloe.

By sheer coincidence Amy, who has been living in Tipperary since 2004, was watching the show last week because she knew one of the contestants Michael Tracey and she and Tom had friends and relatives in the audience. There was great excitement when all of a sudden her scratch card was selected from the drum as they both watched on dumbfounded.

She is a fan of sports and likes to keep fit by playing football, rugby, running and swimming.

Of her plans for her €98,600 winnings, Amy said that she would love to go on a holiday and she and her husband may treat themselves to some college courses in the future.
