Careers night at Moate Community School

Comments (0) | Print | Email

The annual Careers Information event at Moate Community School was a great success. Information was available from over 30 stands, including numerous national colleges, Institutes of Technology, from Dublin to Galway and Sligo...

Alongside training programs such as the Gardaí, Army and Fás.

A number of Local Professionals provided information on Career areas such as Teaching, Nursing, Therapy and many more occupations.

There was an energetic buzz in the school gym on the evening. Local Radio station I105-107 provided the music while at the same time offereing advice on professions such as broadcasting, marketing and sales. MOHH hairdressing added to the atmosphere, encouraging students towards a career in beauty and hairdressing, while also providing students with a new hairstyle!

There was a high turnout of students from Transition Year, as well as fifth and sixth year with many parents also attending. The students and their parents kept the visitors busy with questions about their various careers and college courses.

Exhibitors said they were very impressed with the students focused and enthusiastic questions. The students and their parents received hugely beneficial information on third level courses and career options. In fact, a few parents were heard to say that they would like to go back to college themselves!

Unfortunately, due to the current financial climate, a number of colleges such as University of Limerick, were not able to attend but would like to have been present.

It is important at this time to encourage our students to focus positively on their future.

The guidance department would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended on the evening.
