St Kieran's Youth Discos to become regular event

Teenagers aged 14-17 in the Athlone area can enjoy a new Youth Disco on Friday nights in St Kieran's Community Centre in Tormey Villas, the latest new initiative from the hard-working committee for young people in the area.

Some weeks ago, St Kieran's held a disco, with the assistance of The Ravens Marching Band in the centre which turned out to be a great success for all concerned. Well run and supervised, the alcohol-free disco brought a full house to the centre. On foot of that, the committee decided it should become a regular event, with the next disco pencilled in for Friday, November 13 next beginning at 9pm to midnight.

The feedback from the young people and their parents attending was very positive.

Chairperson of St Kieran's Community Centre Committee Mona Joyce said it has long been an ambition of the centre to host events such as these for young people in the 14 to 17 age group as they believe that there is very little out there for these teenagers to do in the evenings.

The centre is ideally situated and designed for these events and the support of the local community has been tremendous, Mona said, adding that they hope some of youngsters will also join the centre's thriving youth club as well.

All money raised from the discos will be used to improve and develop new services for people of all ages at the centre, which is open to the entire Athlone community irrespective of where you live. St Kieran's Community Centre is a caring community and are always at hand to give help and support to other developing groups in the town.

The disco is strictly no alcohol and is supported by Athlone Community Gardaí.

Tickets priced at €10 are on sale Music World or from St Kieran's Community Centre. For further information call 090 6450272.
