A teenager who attends Moate Community School is this week in a stable condition at the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore after being involved in a car crash last Friday.

Jordan Cassidy, from Castletowngeoghegan, was due to play football for the school on Friday in a Leinster Colleges Senior Championship match, but was hospitalised after the crash on Friday morning.

A HSE spokeswoman said yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon that Mr Cassidy was stable and in a comfortable condition at the hospital in Tullamore.

Moate CS won the match that Jordan was due to play in on Friday and are now through to the quarter-final of the championship against St Pat's on Navan on Saturday.

Teacher and coach Peter Tormey said: "I know they would love to win it for Jordan (Cassidy), whom our thoughts are very much with during this difficult time for his family and friends."
