Athlone Credit Union set to open sub-office in Monksland

Athlone Credit Union has signalled plans to expand into the Monksland area in the coming months. Swimming against national financial tide of closures, the local lending institution, with assets of €60 million, intends to open a new sub-office in the rapidly growing area of South Roscommon this autumn. Speaking to the Westmeath Independent this week, Chief Executive Officer Mick Dillon explained that the expansion of their service to its 5,000 plus members in the Monksland area has been in the pipeline for some time, but recently came into focus after a suitable unit, close to Smith's Supervalu, became available. With estimates of a 25,000 population in Monksland and its hinterland, he believes there is scope for growth for Athlone Credit Union to increase their membership and offer a better service to current members in the burgeoning suburb, considering there are no financial services available on the Roscommon side of Athlone at present. "All the services provided in Athlone will now also be provided in Monksland. We see this as an opportunity for growth," Mr Dillon outlined, adding that they are looking forward to opening the new office in October.
