St Brigid's retain county title in Roscommon

THERE was double disappointment for Padraig Pearses last weekend, as both their senior hurlers and footballers suffered defeat in their respective county finals.

On Saturday, Pearses' hurlers were defeated by Four Roads (1-12 to 1-9) in the Kepak Senior Hurling final replay. The result also marked Four Roads' fifth straight title.

In the football, at Kiltoom last Sunday, St Brigid's beat Pearses, 2-8 to 0-9, to record the Kiltoom/Cam men's third successive county crown.

Meanwhile, in the Westmeath SHC decider, Clonkill beat Raharney by five points at Cusack Park. This coming weekend, Garrycastle bid to retain their Westmeath SFC title when they take-on Mullingar Shamrocks in the final at Cusack Park (3.30pm). Beforehand, Athlone and Moate All-Whites meet in the Westmeath MFC final (1.45pm). See this week's Westmeath Independent for in-depth coverage and reaction to last weekend's games, and also extensive previews of upcoming fixtures.
