Roscommon County Council is likely to decide the fate of the controversial €18m civic headquarters plan at its monthly meeting on Monday.

The council is currently involved in what's known as a Part 8 process, through which it consults with the public regarding planning for its own projects.

Plans for the new civic headquarters at Ardnanagh first emerged in 2011, but have been embroiled in controversy recently with significant opposition from some business interests in the town to the proposal.

Over 250 people attended a public meeting held by the Concerned Businesses And Households Group on Thursday last.
