Tonight's friendly between Athlone Town FC and Premier Division champions Sligo Rovers has been called off after a pitch inspection.
It follows a day of heavy rain in Athlone which has left Lissywoollen pitch waterlogged and unplayable. A friendly between Willow Park and Bohemians, also planned for tonight, has also fallen victim to the weather conditions.
Earlier today, Athlone Town FC manager Roddy Collins named a 23-man squad ahead of the kick-off of action in the Airtricity League 1st Division season.
A statement from the club today (Wednesday) indicated that the manager has not ruled out adding several more names to the squad, if it is seen as an improvement.
The squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers
Paul Skinner
TJ Forde
Craig Sexton
Defenders
Neil Harney
Roddy Collins Jnr
Robbie Clarke
Sean Byrne
Aidan Collins
