Pearses and Dominic's bid for All Ireland Scór na nÓg titles

While the footballers of St Brigid’s prepare to contest the All Ireland club final, two other South Roscommon clubs will this weekend aim to match their ambitions, not on the field of play but on the stage!

The prestigious GAA All-Ireland Scór na nÓg finals will take place this coming Saturday, February 23, in “The Venue” in the heart of Derry’s historic walled city. Clubs from all over Ireland will converge in the Oak Leaf County to contest and celebrate a great expression of Irish culture and heritage under the guise of the GAA. With eight national titles down for decision, the stakes could not be higher and all of the finalists have spent months preparing and endeavouring toward this highest level of Scór na nÓg.

Padraig Pearses and St. Dominic's will represent Roscommon on Saturday in the Novelty Act and Figure Dancing events respectively.

The Knockcroghery club will take to the stage first and the team of Ciara Mullally, Megan Kenny, Rachel Connaughton, Maebh McCormack, Roisin Roddy, Laoisa Kilcline, Tara Kenny and Aisling Dolan will hope their performance of the ‘High Cauled Cap’ will be good enough to win approval from the judges.

With five successive Roscommon titles to their name, this year saw St Dominic's win a first Connacht title in Figure Dancing for their club, a feat that has never before been achieved. The girls face stiff opposition from Whitecross of Armagh, Maynooth of Kildare and Munster champions, Boherbue from Cork.

Although no stranger to All Ireland Scór na nÓg day like their neighbours in St Dominic's, Padraig Pearses are contesting a first national final in the Novelty Act discipline. The sketch “Flight EI2013”, has impressed Scór followers and adjudicators alike from the very first round of Scór na nÓg in Taughmaconnell. At each level this skilled group of actors have improved their delivery and slickness, and will face their opponents with deserved confidence next Saturday.

The Pearses team lines out as of Ross Moloney, Dylan Ryan, Aoife Hibbit, Alan Madden, Eoghan Costello, Grace Dooley, Brendan Rice and Eimear Costello. Competing against them are Shannon Gaels of Longford, Cullyhanna from Armagh and Templederry from Co. Tipperary.

Coiste Scór Roscomáin extends best wishes to the St. Dominic's dancers and the actors of Padraig Pearses. In fact it is worth noting that both St. Dominic's and Padraig Pearses are two of the few Roscommon clubs that promote all areas and aspects of the GAA; football, hurling, camogie, ladies football and of course Scór. They show a great example to all clubs.
