A still from the 1971 video examining the exact centre of Ireland

Where is the exact centre of Ireland?

Where is the exact, dead centre of Ireland?

That's a question that has produced plenty of debate over the years, as a 1971 video from RTE's Hall's Pictorial Weekly proves.

The amusing archive clip examines claims that the Hill of Uisneach, Tubberclair, Birr, and Carnagh East on the shore of Lough Ree represent the exact centre of the island.

Frank Hall and George Devlin contributed to the four and a half minute report, which was first aired on September 29, 1971.
