Lecarrow group wins national tidy towns award

St John’s Parish Heritage Group from Lecarrow has been chosen as the winner of the National Tidy Towns Heritage Award 2013.
The award honours the conservation work and other developments undertaken over a number of years at the Medieval town site at Rindoon. The Heritage Council has been involved with the National Tidy Towns Competition since 1999 and the number of entries for the Heritage Award has grown considerably on an annual basis. The Award is a special competition sponsored by The Heritage Council.
Previous winners were Buncrana Lighthouse Restoration Project, Co. Donegal in 2012, Ballina Salmon Weir, County Mayo in 2011 and Mullaghmore Harbour Project, County Sligo in 2010.
The executive of St. John’s Parish Heritage Group would like to thank the entire community of St. John’s for their support of the Rindoon Project over the years. Your financial contributions, moral support and attendance at the various Heritage Week events are as much a part of this success as the actual physical works undertaken on the site. In so far as the conservation works themselves are concerned the Group would like to thank all the agencies and individuals who have been involved, including The Irish Walled Towns Network, Rainey’s Conservation Ltd., Blackwood & Associates, Nollaig McKeon (Roscommon Co. Council Heritage Officer), Kilduff Construction Ltd., Ivor McElveen and David Sweetman. A very special word of thanks to P. J. Grady and Richard Collins, the landowners, for allowing their property to be used for the various activities.
