Monksland tap to be installed for those affected by 'boil water' notice

A public water tap will be installed by the end of the week at Roscommon County Council offices in Monksland to allow people affected by the 'boil water' notice in South Roscommon source water, a local public representative has confirmed.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent this week, Fine Gael’s Cllr Ollie Moore explained that he received assurances from the council's Director of Services, Majella Hunt, on Monday that the tap would be in place by the end of this week.

A HSE directive means a 'boil water' notice will still apply to the Monksland water tap, he added, however, the public can be assured that the water is uncontaminated as it comes Lisbrock springs which is free of cryptosporidium.

Asked whether he was disappointed it had taken several weeks to get the measure in place for the large areas of South Roscommon affected by the 'boil water' notice, Cllr Moore said: “I’m happy it’s going in there and I’m grateful they (council) are doing it...It’s a source of water that people can use without having to pay for it”.
