Free trees for local communities

As part of National Tree Week, which takes place from March 2 to 8, Westmeath County Council will be giving 600 free saplings to local community and voluntary groups.

The initiative is run in conjunction with the Tree Council of Ireland and Coillte.

The theme of this year's celebration is 'The Sound of Trees'. National Tree Week is an opportune chance for organisations to do something positive for their local landscape.

The closing date for receipt of orders Wednesday, February 26, at 5pm. Trees are to be collected at Belvedere House Garden and Park from 10am to 4pm from Tuesday, March 4, to Saturday, March 8. Any trees not collected by March 8 will be redistributed.

As part of National Tree Week, Belvedere House Gardens and Park have organised the following event on Satruday, March 8:

- 12 noon – 1pm: Bee Keeping Demo and talk by Jim Donohoe

- 1.15pm – 1.45pm: Tree Planting of Native Trees

- 2.00pm – 4.00 pm: CRANN Guided Woodland Walk

(Meet at Belvedere Visitor Centre and admission is free)
