Art auction at Luan Gallery to support Midlands charities

Athlone's Luan Gallery is planning to host a Fine Art auction this Friday in support of charities doing good work in the Midlands region.

In partnership with Athlone IT's Fine Art and Photography Society, the gallery is presenting UNHEARD OF, a collection of artworks donated by both emerging and established artists, for auction.

The proceeds will be split between Midlands Simon Community, Special Olympics Ireland and the Athlone IT Student Hardship Fund.

The artworks are currently on display on the lower ground floor in Luan Gallery and the auction will be held on Friday at 6pm.

Emilia Krysztofiak, Marketing Assistant at Luan Gallery said: 'This is an opportunity for the savvy buyer to pick up a bargain, for artists to gain exposure and for charities to benefit.

'Oscar Wilde said once that ‘all art is immoral’ but in these circumstances, the profits accrued will actually help those in need - a noble cause indeed. I am really looking forward to our very first art auction which promises to be a great evening. We are hoping for a bit of competition between the art collectors which would then add to the sense of conquest at acquisition,' she said.

Artists who have donated works for the cause include Ann McGuinness, Carol Kelly, Lucy Kelly Desmond, Niamh Dalby, Nuala Gorman, Rosemarie Langtry, Lawrence O'Neill, Catherine Rock, Ann Wingfield, William Daly, John Daly, Ursula Meehan, Simon Daly, Margaret O'Connor, Rose Finnerty, Julia O'Keeffe and Lesley Wingfield.

The Luan Gallery will host a drinks reception on Friday from 5pm, for the buyers to view the artwork. The auction starts at 6pm. All are welcome.
