LATEST:Gardai appeal for witnesses to fatal Cornafulla accident

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to a crash in which a 49-year-old woman lost her life in Cornafulla this morning.

The two-car collision happened when the car she was driving collided with a taxi car close to Cornafulla NS, on the old N6 Athlone to Ballinalsloe road at around 9am.

The 49-year-old female was rushed to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, but was pronounced dead a short time later. A post-mortem is to be arranged.
The male occupant of the second car was also taken to Portiuncula Hospital, with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
