Drama Festival kicks off with Fringe event this evening

The RTÉ All-Ireland Drama Festival gets underway this evening with the first of its Fringe events - the first solo exhibition by renowned Castledaly artist Maura Farrell.
The exhibition opens this evening at 7pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre and runs until May 10. It is one of the many events run in association with the All-Ireland Drama Festival.
Maura has been involved in srt since the early nineties when she joined Athlone Art Group and attended a beginners workshop run by Barbara Kavanagh and followed on by doing workshops with the well  known artist Kevin Flood and other artist tutors.
Since then she has been actively involved in Athlone Art Group and has showed her work at many exhibitions in the midland area. She works mainly in watercolour, acrylics, oils and her work adorns many homes and public buildings in the midlands such as Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT).
Maura hails from Castledaly; the Farrells are a well-known family in the area. Her brother Seamus says the family is delighted to see Maura showcasing her work and are very proud of her. As a keen gardener, flowers and nature feature strongly in her work.
The exhibition is titled ‘Influences of Nature’ and will be opened tonight by Dr Marian Fitzgibbon (Head of School of Humanities AIT) at 7pm.
