Athlone rugby star meets Brax!

There were a lot of happy Home & Away fans amongst the Connacht Rugby squad today when they had a surprise visit from one of TV’s most popular stars.

Steve Peacock, who plays Daryl Braxton in Aussie soap Home & Away, is currently in Ireland for a whistle-stop nightclub tour, and took some time out to visit Connacht Rugby while in Galway.

A huge rugby fan and former flanker with amateur clubs in Australia, Steve said the visit was “the highlight of my trip”. He was brought on a tour of the Sportsgrounds, met with all the players and coaches and even had the chance to throw the ball around with young Connacht outhalf and Athlone native Jack Carty.

“I’ll be following the progress of the team for sure and I’d love to get back for a game in the New Year”, said the 32-year-old from New South Wales.

The senior players came together after training and in the home changing room performed the famous Home & Away theme song for the embarrassed but gracious guest of honour.
