Diesel tanks stolen in Summerhill

Clonark gardai are investigating the theft of two large diesel tanks from the Summerhill area of Athlone last week.
It’s the latest fuel theft to hit the area following similar incidents locally over the last year, particularly during winter time.

In this particular case, the two large green diesel tanks were stolen from the rear of a building at Summerhill Industrial Estate last Wednesday between 10.30pm and 8.30am the following morning.

One tank had a 1,200 litre capacity, while the other held about 1,000 litres of fuel. Both tanks which were green in colour had quantities of diesel inside when they were taken.

It’s thought the tanks would have required transport and may have taken some time to remove from the estate.

Anyone who noticed suspicious activity or vehicles in Summerhill Industrial Estate last Wednesday night, July 23 or in the early hours of Thursday morning is urged to call 090 64 37102 or 090 6638300 in strict confidence.
