FRIDAY, AUGUST 1


BOAT RALLY
The Shannon Boat Rally, from Athlone to Ballinasloe, begins. This year’s event starts with a Meet and Greet in Lough Ree Yacht Club. Finger food provided and participants can collect their Rally Pack. The Rally continues until August 3.

ATHLONE GAA
Cards in the club takes place every Friday night at 8.30pm. Further information contact 086 8266270.

CASTLEDALY FIT CLUB
Castledaly Fit Club continues to meet up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6.45pm at the walking track. New members always welcome.

BRIDGE
Bridge continues on Firdays in The Fatted Calf, Glasson, at 10.30am.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 2

JOE DOLAN
The Joe Dolan Music Festival takes place on the August Bank Holiday Weekend to celebrate the music and legend of one of Mullingar’s most famous sons, the late Joe Dolan. Events take place in Mullingar over the course of Saturday and Sunday. For further information contact 044 9341948.

SUNDAY, august 3

FAMILY FUN DAY
A fundraising Family Fun Day and soccer blitz will be held on Sunday, August 2, in McCarthy Park, Athlone. The blitz starts at 11am and the Family Fun Day starts at 2pm.

MELVILLE TOURNAMENT
Local junior soccer club Melville Celtic FC will host a five-a-side tournament to played at Sarsfield Park in Athlone on Sunday, August 3. The competition is open to teams of eight players at the cost of €80 per team. The tournament will comprise 16 teams and will kick-off on the day at 11am.

SHANNON BOAT RALLY
The popular Shannon Boat Rally concludes today at the Marina in Ballinasloe. This includes Concessions at the Carlton Shearwater Hotel, cocktail reception, closing dinner and prize-giving.

SHADOWMAN
2014 sees the second Annual Shadowman Middle & Long Distance Triathlons take place on Sunday, August 3, at Coosan. For more See Http://shadow-man.com
Please note you can only register to take part in Shadowman online. You must also carry either a full Triathlon Ireland license or take out a one-day license payable to Triathlon Ireland.

ATHLONE GAA
Due to a very successful 2013 Cycle Event, Athlone GAA are hosting another Cycle Event & Family Day on Sunday, August 3. The club hopes to have 100 cyclists for this event. The event will begin at the Athlone GAA Club on the Ballymahon Road.

COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL

QPR V ATHLONE TOWN
Harry Redknapp’s Premier League side, Queens Park Rangers, will take on Athlone Town in a friendly in Lissywollen on Tuesday, August 5.

ZUMBA
Zumba fitness classes are underway on Tuesday mornings at 10am in Tubberclair Hall. Get in shape the FUN way! Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness class so it is a workout while partying! Suitable for all fitness levels.

Art classes continue for beginners at Tuesday from 10.30am to 12.30 at Dean Egan Bridgeways Resource Centre, Ballymahon. COMMUNITY GAMES
The HSE Community Games Finals run for two weekends in August in Athlone Instutitute of Technology.
The first weekend runs from Friday, August 15 to Monday, August 18, and the second weekend runs from Friday, August 22 to Monday, August 25.

GOLF CLASSIC
The friends of Athlone Town FC host their Golf Classic at Athlone Golf Club on Friday, September 5. The entry fee is €200 for a team of four and entry forms are available from members of the organising committee. Non-golfers and the business community can also support the fundraiser by sponsoring a green or a tee. The sponsorship fee is €100, and if paid before August 2 (Saturday), sponsors will receive two free stand tickets for the Athlone Town v Queen’s Park Rangers match on August 5.

GO RACING

THE FLATLINE
Entry is now open for the third Flatline Athlone Half Marathon taking place on Saturday, September 13. The event starts at St Aloysius College, Athlone, at 11am. For more information see www.athlonehalfmarathon.com

HORSE FAIR
The renowned Ballinasloe Annual Horse Fair takes place from Saturday, October 4 to Sunday, October 12.

ATHLONE MARATHON
The Athlone Three-Quarter Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 5, at 11am from the Glasson Hotel & Golf Club. This event, now in its fourth year, is widely acknowledged as a super final training event for the Dublin Marathon.
The run is held on quiet country roads and offers great lake and countryside views.
