Kash, the parrot who went missing in Athlone, has been reunited with his owner.

Update delight for owner as missing parrot found in athlone

An Athlone resident whose pet parrot went missing last weekend was reunited with the bird in the centre of the town today (Tuesday).

The rare Catalina Macaw - named Kash - flew out a window of an apartment at Ard Ri on the Dublin Road in Athlone at about 5pm on Sunday.

A major search for the pet was undertaken after appeals were issued yesterday on the Westmeath Independent's website and on Athlone Community Radio. Several sightings of the bird were reported in various parts of the town inside the last 48 hours.

The pet's owner, Lithuanian native Gintaras Peckauskas, was delighted to find the parrot on a tree beside the Prince of Wales Hotel and St Mary's Church of Ireland at approximately 1pm today (Tuesday).

He said it took a bit of coaxing to get the parrot down from the tree but thankfully the 'rescue mission' was a success and the pet was returning home.
