Video this handsonly cpr clip could help to save a life

“Your hands can save a loved one’s life.” That is the message from the Irish Heart Foundation, which has launched a new Hands-Only CPR video to mark 'Restart a Heart Day' today, Thursday October 16.

The aim is to help increase survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest. This condition currently claims an estimated 13 lives here every day, affecting people of all ages including babies, children and young people.

Causing 5,000 deaths annually, cardiac arrest kills more people in Ireland than some of the most serious diseases such as breast cancer, lung cancer and respiratory disease.

According to the Irish Heart Foundation, starting hands-Only CPR promptly (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) can DOUBLE a persons’ chance of survival by keeping blood and oxygen circulated to vital organs.

Specifically, hands-only CPR is a technique that can be applied by anyone without CPR training to keep an adult alive during cardiac arrest by calling 999 and starting compressions.
