Gardai following definite inquiry in suspected arson incident

Gardai are following a definite line of inquiry after a fire at a house in Willow Park last week.


The damage to the unoccupied house was first discovered on Monday, February 9 last around 11am, however, it’s thought the fire may have started some days beforehand, possibly sometime between Friday and Monday.


Gardai have confirmed to the Westmeath Independent that they are treating the incident as suspicious, and they are following a definite line of inquiry in the arson investigation.


It’s thought there was substantial smoke damage to furniture and parts of the house as a result of the fire. The scene was technically examined by scenes of crime gardai on Monday.


Meanwhile, an electrical fault is believed to have the cause of a blaze at a house in Bealnamulla on February 6 last. Gardai attended the scene. It’s unclear how much damage was sustained in this incident.
