Man due before court over seizure of drugs and firearms

A 24 year old man is due before Mullingar Distircit Court this morning in connection with the seizure of drugs and two firearms in Athlone yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon Garda arrested a 24 year old man and an 18 year old woman following searches on two houses in Goldsmith View, Athlone, yesterday morning. During the course of the searches gardai recovered a quantity of what is believed to be cannabis herb and cannabis resin with a street value of up to €10,000 (pending analysis) along with additional drug paraphernalia. Two firearms (pending technical examination) were also recovered in this search.
Following the search the man and woman were arrested and detained for questioning at Athlone Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act. The 18 year old woman has been released without charge.
