Uisneach festival postponed for a week due to weather

This morning's heavy rain has led to the postponement of today’s Fires Festival at Uisneach, which was due to kick off at 2 pm.

However, promises David Clarke, owner of the site on which the festival was to take place, the postponement is just for a week.

“Everything will go ahead, as planned for today, this day next week, May 9,” he stated.

The headline act was Galway chanteuse Mary Coughlan, and the climax of the festival was to be the lighting of the festival fire, at the summit of the hill, at 9 pm.

The decision to postpone the event was made earliler this morning, and was made on the recommendation of the health and safety officer, said Mr Clarke.
