Over 1300 sign book of condolences in wake of tunisia tragedy

Over 1,300 people have signed a book of condolences in Athlone Civic Centre in memory of the late  Larry and Martina Hayes, the local couple whose lives were brutally ended in a terrorist attack in Tunisia at the weekend.


Due to close yesterday, the council has opted instead to keep the book open for a third day such is the volume of people coming into the offices to express their sympathy and solidarity with the Hayes and Kelly families in a time of indescribable grief.


The book of condolences will remain open until 4.30pm today before being  handed over the families in the coming days.


Hundreds of people are expected to file past the couple’s remains from 2pm this afternoon, where they will lie in repose at Flynn’s Funeral Home, The Strand. Their removal is due to take place at 7.40pm this evening to the Church of Ss. Peter and Paul’s, Athlone arriving at 8pm.


Requiem Mass for the tragic couple is due to take place on Friday at 11am with burial afterwards in Coosan Cemetery.


Larry and Martina Hayes are sadly missed by their heartbroken daughter Sinead, Lonnie’s brothers Seamus and Michael, sisters Ann and Della, and Martina’s brothers John Joe, Tommy and Billy and her sisters Evelyn, Ita, Della, Patricia, Pauline, Maureen and Veronica, his uncles Andy and Steve, their brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, colleagues, neighbours, relatives and many friends.
