Photo special home are the special olympic heroes

Team Ireland returned to Dublin Airport early this morning from the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Gamesbringing home an overall tally of 86 medals: 26 gold, 29 silver and 31 bronze.

Among them were local heroes Peter Malynn (57) from Ballymore and 20-year-old Shauna Stewart from Athlone.

Between them Peter and Shauna won two golds, two silvers and a bronze medal at the games.

Shauna was greeted by family, friends and supporters when she arrived back in Athlone this afternoon and there is a special homecoming party for Peter in his native Ballymore this evening, starting at 7.30pm in the local community centre
