Breaking joe ward is european light heavyweight champion

Moate boxer Joe Ward has just won gold at the European Elite Boxing Championship this evening.

Ward secured a unanimous decision from the judges in his light heavyweight final against Dutch fighter Peter Mullenberg.

Ward's win brings Ireland's gold medal tally to two after the earlier victory by Michael Conlan.

It's 21-year-old Ward's second European gold after his victory at the same championships at the age of 17.

Ward will now compete in the World Championships in Qatar, seeking a place in the Olympic Games.
