Antisocial behaviour in athlone delays train

A train passing through Athlone was delayed yesterday (Thursday) evening due to an incident of anti-social behaviour.

The train from Dublin to Westport was held up for between 20-30 minutes after Gardai were called to Athlone train station with a report that a man was intoxicated and causing annoyance.

It's understood that the person resisted arrest when the guards tried to apprehend him, but he was eventually taken into custody at Athlone Garda Station.

The man - a 25-year-old from the west of Ireland - is due to appear in court after he was charged with being intoxicated in public and behaving in an abusive or threatening manner.
