Taoiseach to take part in friends of Nicky McFadden cycle

The Friends of Nicky McFadden cycle is taking place this Saturday, November 14 in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA). The cycle will follow the new cycleway from Mullingar to Athlone.

“I am delighted that the Taoiseach is taking part in the Friends of Nicky McFadden cycle this Saturday and I hope to see a big turnout on the day to raise awareness and funds for a great cause, the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA),” Deputy Gabrielle McFadden said in advance of the event.

The cycle starts at the entrance to the new cycle way at Clonmore Bridge in Mullingar at 10am, or for a shorter cycle (14km) you can join in at the old Railway Station in Moate at 12 noon. The cycle finishes at the International Arena, Athlone Institute of Technology.

“This Mullingar-Athlone Greenway project has been very close to my heart and I was delighted to secure the initial €4 million in funding to get the development up and running. It is a wonderful local resource and tourism asset for the Midlands and so I am delighted we can use it for this event to highlight all that Westmeath has to offer. It is a great honour to bring the Taoiseach here to take part in this event.

The entrance fee for the cycle is €10 and all proceeds go directly to the IMNDA. Bike hire can be arranged, please contact my office for details at 090 6478004.
