VIDEO: Athlone's Robbie signs for double winners Dundalk

Athlone native Robbie Benson this week signed for the outstanding club in Ireland in 2015.

It was announced on Tuesday that the talented 23-year-old midfielder had joined League and FAI Cup winners Dundalk.

Robbie played schoolboy football locally with the St Francis club. He started his League of Ireland career with Athlone Town before going on to become a key member of the UCD team in recent years.

Speaking to dundalkfc.com, Robbie said he felt the move was 'the right one for me at this time, to develop and push on as a player.'

Dundalk captain Stephen O'Donnell tweeted that his arrival was a 'great signing' for Dundalk, while ex-Drogheda and Athlone Town striker Declan 'Fabio' O'Brien described Robbie as 'a top player who could go on to have a superb career.'
