Shane Curran added to FF ticket in Roscommon-Galway

Former Roscommon footballer Shane Curran has been added to the Fianna Fail party ticket for the February 26 general election in the three-seater Roscommon-Galway constituency.

The 44-year-old joins Strokestown-based Councillor Eugene Murphy on the ticket; Murphy was selected at the party's convention in December.

The confirmation comes several weeks after The Westmeath Independent broke the story.
Negotiations with Curran have taken place over the past two months after he was approached by the party with a view to running, in an attempt to secure a high-profile candidate.
Although he doesn’t have a background in politics, Curran has a high profile. He is a regular feature in the media as a football analyst.
Curran played for the Roscommon senior footballers and also Athlone Town and won a number of county championships and an All-Ireland club medal with St Brigid’s.
He is the current manager of the Padraig Pearses senior football team, who he managed to the county final in Roscommon last year.
