Army jobs boost as hundreds of recruits to join this year

A new recruitment campaign for members of the Permanent Defence Forces was launched by Defence Minister Simon Coveney this week.

Just over 600 new recruits are to be taken on this year, with a further 850 general service personnel set to join in 2017.

Applications can be made online at www.military.ie and Army applicants must be at least 18 years old, and under 25 years old, on the closing date for applications which is Sunday, May 22.

The Minister stated that the 'Join Our Team' recruitment drive would specifically aim to increase female recruitment, while also reaching out to people from all backgrounds and ethnicity using social media channels, digital advertisements, the introduction of information programmes for applicants, and a streamlined online application process.

Local TD Denis Naughten encouraged all those interested in a career in the Defence Forces to apply online as soon as possible.

“For many young people this can be a great career option, and I would encourage anyone who is interest in working with the army, air corps or navy to consider applying for a position,” he stated.
