Could we have local Ministers after Government formation?

Roscommon/Galway Independent Denis Naughten is being tipped for a senior ministry in the new Government.

Naughten is expected to be one of a number of independents backing a minority Fine Gael-led Government to get Cabinet seats.

Naughten left Fine Gael over the party’s breaches of promises over Roscommon Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department.

However, before the general election, he indicated clearly that he would be willing to discuss issues with any prospective Government.

Some sources have suggested that the Roscommon man may end up in the Jobs Ministry, currently occupied by Richard Bruton.

Meanwhile, there is some speculation that Longford/Westmeath TD Kevin 'Boxer’ Moran may also be in with a chance of a junior ministry.

Speculation has centred on the Department of Finance, where the junior ministry would have control of the Office of Public Works, which has the responsibility for flood management.

A vote for Taoiseach is expected in the Dail later today.
