Moate to host Irish craft beer festival this weekend

Moate will host a festival of Irish craft beer and cider this weekend.

The second-ever Midlands Craft Beer Festival is being held in the beer garden at the rear of Don’s Bar this Saturday, from 4pm until late.

The festival is the brainchild of Moate resident, and craft beer blogger, Simon Broderick. It first took place in August of last year, and is likely to benefit from the summery weather conditions forecast for this weekend.

Several craft breweries and beer brands will be represented at the event, such as Galway-based Soulwater, McGargles from Kildare, and the Longford-based St Mel’s Brewing Company which was co-founded by Athlone resident Liam Hanlon.

Black Donkey Brewing from Roscommon, O’Cleirigh’s, based in Cavan, and Wild Bat Beer from Oughterard will also be represented.

There will be live music at the festival from Buladh Bos and Toxic Twins, as well as a DJ. BBQ food and a pig on a spit are also planned. Tickets for the event are priced €5.
