Garda appeal after local burglaries

Gardai in Roscommon have issued a fresh warning to the public to secure sheds and vehicles and not to leave any valuables visible in cars, even for a short time.

It comes after several incidents in the south of the county over the last week.
Between Sunday last, June 26 and Tuesday, June 28 two horse saddles and bridles were stolen from a shed in a farmyard at Raw Cross, Curraghboy.
Gardai are looking for the public’s assistance to trace the equine items, which are worth in the region of €800.

Sergeant Declan Hunt also took the opportunity to remind the public to ensure sheds are adequately secured and ensure during holiday time that people have neighbours check on their homes regularly and report anything suspicious to local Gardai immediately.

Over in Dysart, two cars parked opposite the church were broken into on Friday last, July 1 sometime between 8pm and 10pm.

A variety of property was taken from the vehicles, Gardai said.

A short time before, three other cars were targeted in nearby Tremane sports pitch. Again a variety of property was taken from the vehicles and Gardai believe the spate of the car burglaries are linked.

Anyone who noticed anything out of the ordinary in either area last week or can help the investigation in any way, however small, is urged to call Roscommon Garda Station 090 6638300.
