Ray Connellan recovering from injury at present.

Connellan's move to Melbourne secured

The signing of Westmeath footballer Ray Connellan to AFL's St Kilda's is complete.

The news emerged this afternoon of the 22-year-old's move under a two-year-contract.

Things are certainly looking up for the Athlone native, who is currently recovering from a double leg-break and ligament damage sustained in the Westmeath v Dublin Leinster final clash.

It's believed that he along with Kilkenny hurler Darragh Joyce will line out for St Kilda's in time for the play-offs, with Connellan classed as a 'categorgy A' rookie, while the latter will be their international rookie.

“Injuries happen in sport. They (St Kilda) know that. It's not going to be any major delay,' Connellan was reported as saying.

'Pre-season doesn't start until November so it's not going to affect it too much. My fitness will probably be a bit off but it's nothing I can't deal with.'
