Call for help in search for missing man in Athlone

A plea has been issued by friends and family close to missing Tyrrellspass native, Damien Donoghue, to the public to help in the search in Athlone today.

The search will get under way at Athlone Castle at 1pm today, Thursday.

More than 70 people joined in the search yesterday for the 28-year-old who is well known from working in Bloomfield Hotel's Leisure Centre in Mullingar.

Gardaí and members of the sub-aqua unit were also involved in the operation yesterday and will be deployed again today.

Mr Donoghue went missing in the early hours of Sunday morning having been socialising with friends in Mullingar on Saturday night.

Gardaí say he took a taxi from Mullingar to Athlone and was last seen near the Crescent junction around 2.30am on Sunday morning in Athlone town.
