GOOD NEWS FOR COOSAN

THERE’S good news for Coosan with the announcement that a new national school has been approved to go to tender – construction of the €5 million project is set to get underway next year.

It will bring to an end a 16 year long wait for the project which will consist of 16 classrooms and a two-classroom special needs unit.

Fine Gael Senator Gabrielle McFadden said this evening she was delighted that the project has got approval.

“Both myself and my late sister Nicky fought for many years to bring this much needed build over the line.  I was very disappointed when the school project was removed from the approved listing earlier this year, but I have constantly fought for the reinstatement of the school build to commence as soon as possible,” she said.

Independent Deputy Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran also welcomed the news.

“There have been many ups and downs concerning the school project. I have been raising the issue with successive Dail deputies and Education Ministers since when I was a local councillor,” he said.

He said the wait has been frustrating for the local community, parents and pupils.

“Over 260 pupils attending the school are currently being taught in pre-fabs and that is simply not good enough,” he said.

Fine Gael TD for Longford Westmeath Deputy Peter Burke also said it was a welcome development.

“When it is complete, the school will be a state of the art top class educational facility that will serve children in Coosan for generations to come,” he said.
