Dessie and Kelly's house project to appear on 'Room to Improve' this Sunday

A construction project at the Moate home of GAA star Dessie Dolan and his wife Kelly will be featured on this weekend's episode of Dermot Bannon's 'Room to Improve'.

The programme will be broadcast on RTE One at 9.30pm this Sunday, February 12.

RTE's publicity material for the episode states that 'schoolteachers Dessie and Kelly bought themselves a dilapidated cottage on a hopelessly exposed site in the village of Moate.

'Hemmed in by a housing estate, a golf course and an old railway line, they want a family home with the one thing this site doesn’t offer – privacy.

'Dermot’s impressive initial design comes with a few questions, namely Kelly and the size of her beloved utility room.

'A week into construction, building contractor Michael Hassett comes up with an unexpected but risky solution to save costs and simplify the project – demolish the whole cottage and build from scratch! As Dermot returns to the drawing board, the build grinds to a sudden halt.

'Dermot tests the trust of his clients with a design that includes full height windows and a galvanized metal clad first floor – neither of which has ever been seen in the village and both of which threaten to attract undue attention and compromise the privacy Dessie and Kelly are hoping for.

'Can Dermot achieve what seems impossible – creating an inward looking house that’s completely integrated with its surroundings?'

The last series of 'Room to Improve' featured the most-viewed lifestyle programme of 2016 on RTE television, an episode seen by 679,000 people on February 28 last.
