Roddy's return: Collins set for second stint as Athlone Town boss

Roddy Collins is set for a second spell as manager of Athlone Town FC.

The high-profile Dubliner is expected to be appointed as Athlone manager tomorrow (Friday), the Westmeath Independent understands.

Collins secured promotion from the First Division in his first spell managing the club in 2013.

However, he moved to Derry City in advance of a 2014 season in which Athlone failed to retain their top flight status.

Rumours that he was set for a return to the club have been circulating locally for several weeks.

When contacted by the Westmeath Independent last month - prior to the recent controversy around match fixing allegations at the club - Collins said he had 'no comment' to make on the rumours.

However, we understand that an agreement has now been reached to facilitate his return to the club.
