€3,000 worth of goods stolen from occupied house in Athlone

Goods worth over €3,000 have been stolen from a home in Athlone while the occupants were asleep.

The incident took place in Annesfield Woods, Baylough, during the early hours of Friday morning last.

The intruder got into the home through the back door and made off with cash, jewellery, and a phone. The total value of the goods taken was €3,400.

Sergeant Andrew Haran of Athlone Garda Station said the house was occupied at the time but the intruder did not disturb the residents and the theft was not discovered until later on Friday morning.

The burglary is currently being investigated.
