Croke Park backpack ban will be in effect at Westmeath-Dublin game

A new security restriction which will see large bags and backpacks banned from Croke Park will come into effect for this Sunday's Leinster football championship semi final between Westmeath and Dublin.

In a statement, the GAA said the new policy was being introduced after 'a review of safety procedures with the  relevant  statutory authorities.'

It said members of the public 'will not be permitted to take large bags and backpacks into the stadium' when attending matches or concerts.

'Smaller bags  will be permitted but may be subject to searches and patrons are urged not to bring bags at all where possible,' said the statement.

'We would like to thank our patrons in advance for their cooperation with this matter as we look forward to a fantastic season of concerts and matches in Croke Park over the coming months.'
