Where is the best local carvery?

The search is on for Ireland's Greatest Carvery, so make sure to get down to your local carvery next week to sample some of the innovative and creative dishes on the menu boards.

Ireland's first ever 'Great Carvery Week' takes place from June 26 to July 2, and aims to celebrate the nation's persistent love of carvery food, with 24% of us enjoying a carvery meal at least once a week.

In case you thought that carvery was just meat, two veg and a lather of gravy, then “Great Carvery Week” will convince you otherwise. With our palates becoming more discerning, Irish people now rate fresh and natural produce high on their list of priorities when they opt for a carvery meal with their families, while an overwhelming 77% of people recently surveyed rate value for money as being among their top considerations.

Great Carvery Week aims to showcase and highlight the fact that carvery is versatile and adaptable to all dietary requirements and palates. 45% of people surveyed said that gluten free options are important and 59% said that vegetarian options are just as important.

The decision to host a Great Carvery Week follows on from the success of Knorr's Great Carvery of the Year competition, which has been “an overwhelming success” over the past eight years, according to Mark McCarthy, Business Development Chef at Unilever Food Solutions.

There are so many parts to a carvery and customers are very exact and unique in their preferences. That’s why 'Great Carvery Week' is a way to get customers involved, all the while supporting local establishments in Westmeath and around the country that strive to serve tasty carvery every day of the week”, he added.
